James Wesley 'Jimmy' Donegan

Mr. James Wesley 'Jimmy' Donegan died Sunday, October 7, 2012 at Dickson Healthcare Center. Funeral services for Mr. Jimmy Donegan wereheld at 1 p.m. on Saturday, October 13, 2012 from the chapel of Taylor Funeral Home with Bro. Allen Weller and Bro. Donnie Craig officiating. Interment with full military honors followed in the Dickson County Memorial Gardens. A native of Dickson County, Jimmy was the son of the late Lester Wesley 'Slim' and Ann Gray Hunter Donegan. He attended the former Dickson High School and later joined the U. S. Navy. He was stationed in Pearl Harbor during peacetime post-WWII and continued his service with the Navy during the Korean War. After the war, he married the former Martha Cannon and was next stationed in several ports in the upper eastern U. S. Ports of Newport, Rhode Island, Bath, Maine, Long Island, New York and others as a supply officer. His distinguished and decorated naval career ended with his retirement after more than 22 years of service and having achieved the rank of Chief Petty Officer (E-8). Also of note, he had service on board the famed USS Forrest Sherman. After his retirement, he and his family moved to Clarksville, Tennessee and for a short time he sold cars and later began work at Napa Auto Parts where he worked for nearly twenty years before returning home to Dickson. Here, he retired from Tennsco Corportation. Following the death of his wife, he married Patsy Sisco Gray. Jimmy was a member of Dickson First United Methodist Church and Dickson Masonic Lodge #468. Survivors include his wife, Patsy Gray Donegan, Dickson; his daughter, Lee Anne Orgain and her husband, Jim, Clarksville; a step-son, Gerald Thomas Gray and his wife, Shinobu, Fredonia, NY; Grandchildren, Jamie (Tiffany) Donegan, Clarksville, Jessie (Stephanie) Donegan, Louisville, KY, Somer Haley, Clarksville, Randi Lynn Donegan and Kelli Donegan both of Westland, MI; five great grandchildren and another on the way!; sisters, Daisy Wrenn, Garden City, Michigan, and Nancy French, Dickson; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Martha Cannon Donegan, a brother, Larry Donegan; two sons, Michael Wesley and Gary Thomas Donegan, and by a step-son, Timothy Dale Gray.
