The spirit of Nancy Jean Elliott passed from this world at June 22, 2016, at 3:39 in the morning, at Centennial Medical Center. Nancy had spent the last days of her life surrounded by her family. Family was important to Nancy; she was a devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and aunt, and was the oldest of Clifton ‘Bud’ and Dorothy Nesbitt’s eight children. She is survived by her mother (Dorothy Nesbitt), siblings (Cynthia Walsh, Patty Petty, Sandy Hooper, Ricky Nesbitt, Janet Stewart, Jamie Nesbitt, and Angie O’Daniel), second husband (Garry Elliott), children (Nanette Rourk and Landon Taylor), son-in-law (Jonathan Rourk), and grandchildren (Lillian, Kate and Emilie Rourk), all of whom she cherished dearly.

Nancy was born on June 11, 1948, in Dickson, TN. Aside from a time during her elementary and middle school years living in Belleville, Michigan while her father worked for GM, Nancy was a lifelong McEwen resident. She graduated from McEwen High School in 1966. While in high school she met her husband Samuel ‘Sam’ Taylor. She and Sam were married at the McEwen United Methodist Church in May of 1974. They were married for nearly 24 years until Sam’s passing in March of 1998. Nancy remarried Garry Elliott in January of 2006.

Nancy was an active member of the McEwen United Methodist Church for her entire adult life, and over the years she contributed to the life of the church and her church family in many important ways, such as teaching children’s Sunday school classes, directing plays, repairing and repainting the church and parsonage, cleaning the church and parsonage, performing various duties on the board of the church, representing the church at annual conferences, singing in the choir, and supporting the church in other ways too numerous to list here. She was willing to do the jobs that no one wanted to do. Her presence there will be greatly missed.

Her career path was varied and brought her in contact with many of the people in the community. If you wanted to add or remove wallpaper from your house in the 1980s and 90s, chances are that you called Nancy and her sisters, they would do it for you. She was also a draftswomen and many of the houses in the area were drawn by her. She continued drawing house plans for people until just last year. Nancy also worked as a teller at the Bank of Dickson from 1998, after the passing of Sam, until February of 2012 when she was diagnosed with cancer. While working at the bank she made many friends. She spent most of her time working at the downtown branch, and her favorite job was working the drive-thru.

Nancy was a wonderful grandmother to Lillian, Kate, and Emilie. She spent every holiday with them, and as much time as she could throughout the year. She said that they lifted her spirits whenever she was around.

Nancy wants us all to remember her as she was in life, and we are honoring her wish that there will be no viewing or visitation.

Her remains are in the care of Taylor Funeral Home, but there will be no public visitation. Funeral services for Mrs. Nancy Taylor Elliott will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday, June 26th from Dickson First United Methodist Church with Pastor C. Keith Sherwood and Rev. Amanda Dean officiating. Private graveside service for the family will follow at the McEwen Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers the family has requested that memorials be made to United Methodist Volunteers in Missions, www.umcmission.org/Give-to-Mission/Search-for-Projects/Projects/901875
