Hazel McElhiney Vetter
Funeral services for Hazel McElhiney Vetter, age 88 of Dickson will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 30, 2016 from the chapel of Taylor Funeral Home with Caris Hospice Chaplain John Smith officiating. Interment followed in Dickson County Memorial Gardens. Grandsons and grandsons-in-law served as pallbearers. Visitation will be held on Friday from 2 until 8 p.m. and on Saturday from 10 a.m. until time of service. Mrs. Vetter died Wednesday, July 27, 2016 at NHC. Born in Tennessee City, Hazel was the daughter of the late Samuel and Evie Holland McElhiney. She was married to Laymon “Sid” Vetter who predeceased her in November, 2014. She was also preceded by most of her sisters and brothers. Hazel worked many years for the Henry I. Siegel Mfg. Co. as a machine operator and later as inspector. After retiring, she embarked on a second career as a CNA at NHC, as well as doing private-duty sitting with people. She had such a strong work ethic that even in her spare time she stayed busy canning and freezing vegetables and later cooking and serving them for her family. When she was “caught up” with her work, she enjoyed fishing, reading cookbooks, spending time with her children and grandchildren, and seeing about her cows and cats. She loved Christmas and on those occasions, she was filled with a spirit of mischief that enabled her to pull some memorable pranks on certain family members! Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Janice and Tommy Tummins, Dickson; her son and daughter-in-law, Adrian and Norma Vetter, Dickson; one brother, Leslie McElhiney, Gleason, TN; grandchildren, Mandy Newborn (Eric), Dana Tummins Miller (Johnny), Adam Vetter (Misty), and Andrew Vetter; great-grandchildren, Johnathon Miller, Hunter Elliott, Ethan Newborn, and Brela Johnson; several nieces and nephews.
