James Lloyd Cavender, age 62 of Nashville, formerly of Burns, died Wednesday, August 10, 2016 at West Meade Place in Bellevue.  His wishes were to be cremated and no services are planned at this time.  His cremains will be interred at a later date on the family plot at the Richardson Cemetery in Burns.  James requested that no flowers be sent; instead, because of his love for animals, memorials are desired to the Humane Society, a “no kill” animal shelter, or to any animal rights organization you may desire.

Born in Dickson, Tennessee, James was the son of the late George and Sarah Estelle Bishop Cavender.  He graduated from the former Dickson High School, Class of 1971.  James was an avid lover of animals and took in and fed stray cats and dogs.  Another important aspect of his life was gardening and he planted and nurtured many, many species of plants, especially flowering plants and shrubs.  He retired from the State of Tennessee after 40 years of service, first in Corrections and later in Admissions for the Tennessee Mental Health Institute.  After retirement, he enjoyed working as an Interior Designer at Designer Floors.

He is survived by three brothers, John Cavender, Dickson, Joe Cavender (Sherry), Virginia, and Charles Cavender, Burns; two sisters, Katie Banks (Jackie), Dickson, and Annie Cavender, Nashville; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.  In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, George Cavender and by two sisters, Betty Sue Cavender and Sarah Cavender Ingram.
