Michael Roy Roddy, age 61 of Dickson died on Monday, February 13, 2017.  Visitation will be held at the Taylor Funeral Home on Friday, February 17, 2017 from 5pm until 7pm and on Saturday from 12noon until the time of service.  A service to celebrate Michael’s life is scheduled for Saturday, February 18, 2017 at 1pm at the Taylor Funeral Home with Rev. Anthony Ward giving the Eulogy.  Place of rest will be in the East Dickson Cemetery.

Michael was born October 22, 1955 in Rockwood, TN.  He was a son of the late Rev. Maceo Roddy and Beatrice Sadler-Roddy.  Michael was one of a kind.  He never met a stranger, had the “gift of gab” and a very colorful personality.  Growing up on the family farm in Harriman, TN, he learned the value of unity within a family and the reward of hard work.  He would readily share stories about his dad and his favorite uncle Neal Roddy who was also known as “The Bear.”  Michael was baptized at an early age and was a member of the Oak Grove Baptist Church in Harriman, TN until his health forced him to move to Dickson, TN to be cared for by his sister, Joyce Roddy-Strickland, whom he loved dearly.  He joined the Worley Furnace Missionary Baptist Church under Pastor Anthony L. Ward and was a faithful member of the male chorus there until his health began to fail.  He loved singing God’s praises when he could and made sure his spiritual connection and dedication to the Lord was as it should be.  He had worked many years as a concrete finisher and former TVA employee.  He took pride in his military service as a Vietnam era Army Veteran.  He had many colorful “sayings” and if you knew him well, he would give you a new nickname!  He referred to his devoted nephew, Wesley McBride and “Fat Boy” and his devoted niece Teretha McBride as “Bird.”  He gave his sister, Joyce the nickname “Chick” the day she came home from the hospital as an infant.  He would often refer to himself as “the head of the clan.”  All his children, Christina, Michelle, Desmond, and Lakissha were all dear to his heart.  He loved the life he lived and lived the life he loved.

He is survived by his son, Desmond Freeman of Oak Ridge, TN; his 3 daughters, Christina Bondaugh of Knoxville, TN, Michelle Myers of LaVergne, TN, and Lakissha Kirk of Oak Ridge, TN; brother, Wenzel Rowan of Long Island, NY; 3 sisters, Roxianne Sadler-Sherles of Loudon, TN, E. Joyce Strickland of Dickson, TN, Patricia Mallory (Longtine Friend) of Madison, TN; 10 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren.
