Mr. Charles Ralph Barber, age 79 of Dickson, TN died Sunday, Jan. 6, 2013 at Gateway Medical Center after a brief illness. Funeral services for Mr. Ralph Barber were conducted Wed. afternoon, Jan. 9, 2012 at 3 PM from the Chapel of the Taylor Funeral Home with Jerry Smith giving his eulogy. Place of rest is in the Dickson County Memorial Gardens. Born in Jackson, Tennessee, June 12, 1933, he was the son of the late Rufus and Exie Higgins Barber. He married Mary Ruth Jones in 1952. Ralph proudly served his country in the United States Air Force as a weather observer in Alaska. He enlisted on April 1953 and was honorably discharged April 1957. After leaving the military he began a career in managing Woolworth and Ben Franklin Stores in Savannah, GA, Elizabethton, TN and Dyersburg, TN and eventually in Dickson in 1965. After the Ben Franklin store closed in Dickson he managed the Dickson Country Club. In 1974 he began working at DuPont in New Johnsonville where he retired from June 1997, where he received numerous awards for ideas and inventions he contributed at DuPont. He attended First Baptist Church of Dickson where he attended the Odds and Ends Sunday School Class. He was preceded in death by a Sister, Mary Barber Briley; Son-in-law, Daryl Dillehay; and Step Grandson, Todd Pruett. Survivors include His Wife of 60 years, Mary Ruth Jones Barber of Dickson; 4 Daughters, Charlene Dillehay of Dickson, Beth Gray and her husband, Steve of Bon Aqua, Lorrie Pruett and her husband, Teddy of Dickson, Suzanne Sherley and her husband, Dr. Lance Sherley of Clarksville; 6 Grandchildren, Caleb Gray, Katie Pruett, Mary Beth Gray, Seth Sherley, Kelsey Sherley, and Jordan Sherley; 3 Great Grandchildren, Nora, Jolie and James Gray; 2 Step Grand Grandchildren, Muranda Gray DeLoach and Selina Gray Winfrey; 3 Step Great Grandchildren, Tyler Winfrey, Cain DeLoach, and Kirsten Winfrey.
