Imogene (“Jean”) Sullivan Bledsoe, age 88, peacefully passed away at her home on Saturday, August 12, 2017.

Born to Z.J. and Callie Sullivan on Sept. 16, 1928, Jean married her sweetheart, John Willis Bledsoe on Sept. 4, 1949. The couple settled in Fairview and spent 64 loving years building an admiring family and large circle of friends.

More commonly known as “Grandmother,” Jean adopted all as one of her own, opening her doors for family holidays, baby showers, wedding preparation, considerable amounts of babysitting, and an ever-listening ear. She was a long-time fixture in the community, where she could be found in the bleachers of her children’s – and later grandchildren’s – baseball, football, and basketball games.

Known for her “Grandmother cookies,” Sunday dinners, quilting talents and her all-around sweet disposition, she will be missed not only by her family, but also by the Fairview community and the New Hope Baptist Church and First Baptist Church congregations.

Jean was preceded in death by her husband, John Willis Bledsoe and daughter-in-law, Donna Bledsoe.

She is survived by her children, Wanda (Mike) Welch, Ricky Bledsoe and John (Lisa) Bledsoe; seven grandchildren, Brian (Erin) Welch, David (Brooke) Welch, Kori (Jarret) Jones, Ryan Bledsoe, Drew (Chelsey) Bledsoe, Stephen Bledsoe and Jonathan Bledsoe; great-grandchildren Coulter Welch, Easton Welch, Brayden Johnson, Nolan Bledsoe and Waverly Bledsoe.

During her illness, Jean was in constant care of at least one – and often more than one – family member. The family would also like to extend a special thank you to Caris Healthcare who aided the family during Jean’s last days.

Visitation will be held from 2 p.m. – 8 p.m. Monday, Aug. 14 and 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 15 at Taylor Funeral Home. Tuesday’s visitation will be followed by her service at 2 p.m.  Officiants are Bro. William Gray and Dr. Bill Sherman.  Jean's granddaughter Kori Jones will deliver the eulogy.  Place of rest will be in the Parker-Fowlkes Cemetery. Grandsons and nephews will serve as casketbearers.
