Funeral Mass for Joseph Duncan “Joe” Webster, age 88 of Dickson, will begin at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 3, 2018 from St. Christopher’s Church with Father Justin Raines, Celebrant.  The family will receive friends at Taylor Funeral Home on Monday, July 2nd from 4 p.m. until the Rosary Service at 7:30 p.m.  Family and friends will gather at Taylor’s Tuesday morning to depart in procession to the church at 9:45 a.m.  Joe died Saturday, June 30, 2018 at his home.  For those desiring, memorials may be made to St. Christopher’s.

Born in Nashville, Tennessee, Joe was the son of the late George Washington and Mary Adeline Dorris Webster.  He graduated from high school in 1949.  The Korean Conflict was escalating and in 1951 Joe volunteered for service in the United States Air Force.  While stationed in Newfoundland, Joe met and married the love of his life, Verma Alexander (Webster).  He served until January 1955 and returned home to Springfield, Tennessee.  He attended the Nashville School of Broadcasting and worked in Springfield at WDBL.  The new family moved to Dickson in 1960 where he began working as a radio announcer at WDKN, a love relationship that lasted for nearly 25 years.  In that time frame, as his family grew to six children, Joe also had several other employers to supplement his radio income:  he sold insurance for Life and Casualty, worked at Dickson Country Club, and for Montgomery Bell State Park.  After his long career with WDKN, he worked and retired from Tennsco Corporation with 25 years of service.

Although Joe made a career “talking” on the radio, he loved people in general and never met a stranger.  He could (and would!) talk at great length to people he met along life’s pathway.  His children constantly learned lessons in patience as they waited for Joe’s conversations with his acquaintances to end!  He was a humble man and was thankful to God for his blessings.  He would not even sit down to eat a cookie without pausing to give God thanks.  Joe loved his family, his church family, and his friends of years or of minutes.  He ministered to his many friends by an instructive tongue and an attentive ear.  Many are the children who were recipients of his playful jocularity and many are the older people who were moved by his attention and blessed by his interest in their lives.  Joe was an optimist and always found a bright spot; even in the gloomiest of circumstances.  He was a longtime member of St. Christopher's Catholic Church.  He will be greatly missed by his relatives and many friends.

Survivors include his wife, Verma Webster, Dickson; two sons, Joseph Derrick Webster (Susan) and Michael Webster (Karen), all of Dickson; his four daughters, Deborah Allsbrooks (Jackie), Charlotte, Patricia Parish (Matt), Susan Smith (Randy), and Regina Webster (Gary Hare), all of Dickson; a brother, Wayne Webster, White House, TN; 12 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.
