Harold Rutledge “Preacher” Edwards of Waverly, TN (formerly of Dickson, TN) passed away from this life on Sunday, August 4, 2019 at NHC-Dickson, due to injuries sustained from breaking his back from a fall.

Harold was born on April 3, 1935 in Bell Buckle, Tennessee.  At the tender young age of 2 ½ years old, the family moved to a 160-acre farm in the Oak Grove community in Dickson County on Garner’s Creek Road.  It was during his upbringing there on the farm that Harold earned his nickname “Preacher” by jumping on a step and imitating the local preacher complete with stuttering and finger pointing.  The happiest years of Harold’s life was when he was on the farm from age 2 ½ years to 22 years old.

Harold served in the US Army from 1957 to 1959.  His rank was E-4 and his job occupation was a radio operator.  The tour of duty that Harold served was in Korea.

On August 1, 1959, Harold married Bessie Jean Brooks of Sylvia.  The marriage produced 4 children.  One son and three daughters.

Harold went through a 4-year apprenticeship program (utilizing his VA benefits) to become an electrician through Conalco.  Harold was one of the last four men at Conalco when it closed in 1987.  Harold went to work at Camden Casting from 1987 to 1997.  In retirement, Harold enjoyed socializing and reaching out to the sick.

He is survived by his son, Randy (Angela) Edwards of Dickson, TN; daughters, Camille (Ricky) Hicks of Minor Hill, TN, Vicky Robbins of Waverly, TN, and Kim (Lee) Soto of Dickson, TN; the mother of his children, Jean Edwards of Dickson, TN; nine grandchildren; nine great grandchildren (with 2 more on the way by December); nieces; nephews; cousins, Helen Latch of Nashville, TN, and Wanda Langlois of Stone Mountain, GA.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William “Willie” Lester Edwards, Wilma Genora Wells Edwards; and a brother, David Wells Edwards.

John 3:16 sums up Harold’s life to a “T”.  Harold gave of himself by his many talents to whoever was in need.  The world is a better place because of Harold Edwards.
