Mrs. Ellis, age 102, of Tennessee City, died peacefully at her home May 20, 2020.

Ms. Agnes was born in Humphreys, daughter of the late Henry Clay and Georgia Ethel Rumsey Waynick. She was the widow of the late Ernest Bell Ellis who died in 1994. She was preceded in death by nine brothers and sisters. She was a graduate of Dickson High School, class of 1939. Ms. Agnes was a longtime member of the Tennessee City United Methodist Church where she has been a member for over 70 years.

She and her late husband owned and operated the E. B. Ellis Grocery in Tennessee City for some 44 years. It was in the hub of Tennessee City, where citizens could do their shopping and catch up on the happenings of Tennessee City. The grocery store hosted many county, state and federal elections there for their district. For the residents of Tennessee City, it was not Dickson, it was and always has been Tennessee City.

Ms. Agnes belonged to no organized political organization, she was a Democrat! She first voted for our 32nd President of the United States, Franklin Delano Roosevelt. She and Mr. Ellis were active in the Tennessee City affairs, being on the original board of the Tennessee City Volunteer Fire Department.

She maintained at her home until the very end at 102. Up until her failing health a couple of years ago she still mowed her yard and did her gardening. Over the years she loved to knit and crochet and attend her church.

Survivors include her son; Ernest B. (Corky) Ellis, Jr. of Tennessee City, TN, her grandson; Ernest Brian Ellis and his wife, Susan of Tennessee City, TN, three great grandchildren; Annabelle Taylor Ellis, Brianna Paige Ellis and Claire Elizabeth Ellis.
