Bob slipped away as he did everything during his life, with dignity and grace, on Tuesday December 6, 2011 at Horizon Medical Center with his beloved daughter and friends at his side. His family moved to Dickson in 1921. He attended Dickson schools, graduating in 1929. He attended UT Knoxville, then went to a business school. He joined Walnut Street Church of Christ in 1926. He had many friends and acquaintances in Dickson. Once he met someone he never forgot them. And he would remember everything about them, their family and their history. He was an honest man of good character and a good Christian in every way. He loved God and his family and his friends. He loved life and believed exercise would keep you healthy and was still riding his exercise bike up until 3 weeks before his death. His first business venture was City Service Dry Cleaners on Main Street. He bought the business on the south side of Main Street, then moved it to the north side. He then courted and married Tunelle Adcox. They were happy together for 64 years and had two wonderful children. Bob was called to serve his country. After returning from his tour of duty as a Sgt. In the U. S. Army and serving in Europe during World War II, he opened Bob Nicks Realty Company. He sold numerous home and properties and also helped many people get a first start with their homes. At the same time, he was associated with First Federal Bank. Bob and his good friend, Ben Fuqua were responsible for picking out the beautiful blue brick that has made the bank on East College Street a town landmark. He was with First Federal Bank for 50 years, retiring as Senior Chairman of the Board. Some of his community services include: State Civil Service Commission under the Governors Clement and Ellington, a quarter partner in starting Memorial Gardens, a charter member of the Lions Club, Lifetime member of the VFW, past Commander and member of the American Legion, WW II Veteran, Citizens Advisory Committee to the Dickson County Department of Public Welfare, real estate broker, and Director of the Dickson County Chamber of Commerce for several terms.
