Funeral services for Mrs. Alberta Mae Pennington “Penny” Youree, age 89 of Dickson will be Thursday February 19, 2015 at 2 PM from the Chapel of the Taylor Funeral Home with Rev. Steven Lee officiating. Place of rest will be in the Dickson Union Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be Wednesday February 18th from 4 to 7 PM and on Thursday from 12 PM noon until time of service. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or the Fellowship Class of Dickson First United Methodist Church.

Mrs. Youree passed away peacefully in her sleep on February 15, 2015. She was born January 3, 1926, the second of Isaac Bertram and Pamelia May Chambers Pennington’s four children. She graduated from Lawrenceburg High School and later from Middle Tennessee State College, where she acquired the nickname “Penny.” When Penny was a senior at MTSC, she was elected vice president of the student body, the highest office a woman could hold. After graduation, she was employed by the extension service of the University of Tennessee as a home agent, working in Wayne and Dickson counties. In 1956, she married Joe Fred Youree, and the next year retired from the extension service to rear her children. When her youngest child started school, she returned to work, teaching second grade at Oakmont School in Dickson for the next 23 years. She was a long-time member of Dickson First United Methodist Church. She also volunteered, delivering Meals on Wheels for 18 years, and was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma and several other social organizations. She loved small children, was an avid basket collector, and butterflies always made her smile. Penny was preceded in death by her brothers, William James, who died as an infant, and Rev. I. B. Pennington.

She is survived by her beloved husband of 59 years, Joe Youree of Dickson; son, Roger Kent Youree (Susan) of Madison, AL; daughter, Patricia Ann Stokes (Michael) of New Market, AL; brother, Rev. Norman Pennington of Lebanon; grandchildren, Lauren Elizabeth Daigneault (Brad), Kathryn Ann Stokes, Emily Elizabeth Youree, Charles Joseph Youree.
