Going home celebration for Mr. Robert I. Blue, Sr, age 84 of Dickson, TN was conducted Nov. 25, 2014 at 2 pm from the First United Methodist Church in Dickson with Rev. Alexander Gatson officiating and Pastor Stacy L. Cowan delivering his eulogy. Place of rest is in the East Dickson Cemetery.

Mr. Blue departed this life on Nov. 19, 2014 at St.Thomas West after a brief stay. Lifelong resident of Dickson County, he was the son of the late Richard Blue Sr. and Doy Reddon Blue. He was the first African American elected to public office in Dickson County and would go on to serve 36 years on the Dickson City Council. He retired after 39 years with Ford Glass Plant in Nashville as a committeeman for the United Auto Workers Local 737 (UAW). He was honored as a civil rights and civic pioneer...Robert devoted himself to serving the citizens in the City and County of Dickson. Leading efforts to improve economic climate, social justice and livelihood of the community he loved dearly. Once Robert met you, he never forgot you and he made it hard for you to forget him. Ever the persuader---he was known for his humor, effervescent smile and "never take no" for an answer attitude. He was honored and saluted by numerous organizations and groups, Robert was perhaps the proudest of his efforts to help the local NAACP in its efforts to advance opportunities for its minority citizens.

If greatness is determined by how much a person impacts other people's lives for good---then the definition of a Great Man was personified by the life of Robert Blue. A man of faith who always put God and his family first, especially his bride of 54 years, Laura who he affectionately called "his sweetie". He was a lifelong member of the St. James A.M.E. Church in Dickson and attended the Bowman Chapel United Methodist Church of Dickson.

He leaves behind his beloved sweetie, Laura Dell; six children: Benny Overton, Rusty (Sheila) Overton, Cecilia (Dwight) Holt, Lori (Darrel) Tyson, Robert (Anita) Blue, Jr. all of Dickson, TN and Randy ( Sylvia ) Blue of Brentwood, TN. Beloved in-laws, Marvin (Addie) Fossie, Nella Mae Nesbitt and Delois Fossie all of Dickson, TN and Bettie Robertson of Columbus, OH and host of nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by two children, Bettina Overton and George Overton, Jr. Near and very dear to his heart as well--- Special grinds, co-workers, and United Auto Workers (UAW) Local 737, Ford Glass Plant, Nashville, TN.
