 Julian Norman, 82, of Dickson died Tuesday, Nov. 6, at The Meadows in Bellevue following a battle with cancer and pulmonary fibrosis. A memorial service will be at 2 pm Saturday, Nov. 10, in the chapel he designed at Taylor Funeral Home with memories shared by his children, grandchildren and friends. Visitation with the family will be 4-8 pm Friday and 1 pm until time of service Saturday at Taylor Funeral Home. He will be cremated.

A native of Nashville, Tenn., Mr. Norman was the youngest child of the late Carrie Sneed and Jack Norman Sr. He graduated from Hillsboro High School in Nashville and Rice University in Houston, Texas, with a degree in architecture. He served in the U.S. Army and Reserves 1960-68, achieving the rank of 1st Lieutenant.

For more than 50 years, he worked as an architect in Middle Tennessee, beginning with Donald E. Stoll, then forming his own firm Schlott, Norman and Cain in 1968, before launching a solo practice in Nashville then moving his office to Dickson in 1977.

Over more than half a century, Mr. Norman designed more than 1,000 projects including single-family homes, apartment complexes, condominiums, churches and chapels, schools and universities, daycares, restaurants and other businesses, state park facilities, industries, government and utility offices and more, primarily in Middle Tennessee. He served for 25 years as a member of the City of Dickson Board of Zoning Appeals and was a former President of the Middle Tennessee Chapter of the American Institute of Architects.

Mr. Norman is survived by his wife of almost 60 years, Eileen O’Leary Norman; five children: Chris (Molly) Norman of Dickson, Mike (Patrick) Norman of Phnom Penh, Cambodia, Julie (Scott) Park of Cordova, Steve Norman of Atlanta and Tommy Norman of Bellevue; nine grandchildren: Carmen Hall, Josh (Paula) Park, Jordan Park, Jake Park, Chad Paruszkiewicz, Hadley Norman, Sophie Norman, Parker Norman and Bella Norman; four great-grandchildren, Julian Ryan Hall, Aaron Hall, Eisley Park and Raphael Park; one brother; Judge Seth (Donnie) Norman; one sister; Carolyn Norman Tune; and several nieces, nephews, bonus grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by two brothers: Jack Norman Jr. and Dr. Robert S. Norman; brother-in-law, John C. Tune; and two sisters-in-law: Duina Zacchini Norman and Katherine Stackhouse Norman.

He was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Dickson, where he served as a deacon. He is a former member of the Board of Directors of Developmental Services of Dickson County.

For those desiring, the family requests fall flowers and plants that can be transplanted to the courtyard at The Meadow, where Mr. Norman enjoyed spending time during his five months as a resident.
