Funeral Services will be conducted at 1:00 pm on Thursday, January 3, 2018, from the chapel of Taylor Funeral Home.  Visitation will be held from 11:00 am until the time of service.  Billie Ruth will be laid to rest beside of her lifetime husband and companion, Hugh Tiller in Dickson’s Union Cemetery. 

 Flowers accepted, or memorials may be made to the Nashville Alzheimer’s Association, 478 Craighead St #200, Nashville, TN 37204.

  Billie Ruth Tiller, age 90, passed away on Sunday, December 30, 2018, in Hendersonville, Tennessee, at Hickory Hill Alzheimer’s Special Care Center.  

 She was born in Dickson, Tennessee on October 30, 1928, to Clarence E. and Bessie Luther Buttrey, who for many years owned and managed First Federal Savings and Loan Bank on Main Street in Dickson. 

 On June 29, 1950, she married Hugh Marshall Tiller, Jr. at the First Baptist Church in Dickson, where they worshiped for many years until they relocated to Bellevue, Tennessee in the 1980s. 

 Always an athlete, Billie Ruth played basketball in high school and was sad to learn her college of choice did not have a girls’ team.  She majored in Physical Education and met Hugh at Carson Newman College in Jefferson City, Tennessee.  For several years, Billie coached the girls’ basketball teams at two different schools.  She also taught third grade in Burns, Tennessee and retired after teaching in public schools for over 25 years.

 She and Hugh enjoyed their season tickets to Vanderbilt football. Billie Ruth lived most of her life and graduated from high school in Dickson, Tennessee. She was proud to be a member of the DAR (Daughters of the American Revolution).  Her energy’s in life were divided between being a wife and mother, teaching school, and attending and teaching Sunday school at First Baptist Church. 

 Hugh Tiller, her husband of 62 years, passed away on June 22. 2012.  Billie was also predeceased by her two siblings: Clarence “Buddy” Buttrey and Francis Roden.

 Mrs. Tiller is survived by two sons, Hugh Marshall “Markk” Tiller, III who lives in Hendersonville, Tennessee, where he tenderly took care of Billie Ruth during her illness, and Adrian Bruce Tiller who lives and works near San Francisco, California.  She is also survived by 10 nephews and 3 nieces.
