Mr. Dennie Walton Spann, age 81, of White Bluff, TN, died peacefully at Brookdale Belle Meade on Sunday, March 15, 2020.  He was born on November 14, 1938 in Dickson County to Coleman and Ruth Spann.  Dennie made White Bluff his home for 81 years.  He was a 1956 graduate of William James High School and immediately joined the United States Army.  While in school he was known as quite the athlete and received many superlative awards.  His classmates were his lifelong friends and he enjoyed keeping in touch with them until his time of death.  His athleticism, hard work ethic, talents, and toughness carried forward while serving in the Army and beyond.

Dennie was a God-fearing Christian and a member of the Chapel Hill Church of Christ.  He was respected by all who knew him and was known to be an honest and humble man.   He was the most caring and giving human being and was always finding ways to help others while putting the needs of others before himself.  He taught his family the difference between right and wrong and how to help, love, and serve others daily.

He was a 4th generation sawmiller and was co-owner and operator of Spann Brothers Lumber Company located in White Bluff.  Hardwoods was his passion and he, along with his brothers, produced the finest in hardwood lumber exported throughout the world.  He took great pride in all he did while instilling a hard work ethic in everyone who watched him.

Outside the family business, Dennie made time to enjoy life with his wife and children, family, friends, and loved ones.  He loved to fish and hunt with his family and friends and was always most excited getting to travel and hunt with his son, Spook.  The two of them enjoyed many incredible adventures and traveled the world hunting, fishing, touring, and viewing the scenery, sights, and sounds of God’s creation.

He was survived by his son, Spook Spann and wife Marty of White Bluff, TN; his daughters, Bunnie Cherry and her husband Tim of Dickson, TN, and Angel Lunn and her husband Jeff of Burns, TN; his grandchildren, Cassie Spann, Coleman Spann and fiancé Summer Eagleson, Andrew and Anna Cherry, Amy and Ashley Jenkins, Cale and Brien Lunn; great-granddaughter, Abigail Jenkins; his brother, Guy Spann and his wife Johnnie of White Bluff, TN; his sisters, Patsy Brown and her husband Carner of White Bluff, TN, Judy Griffin of White Bluff, TN, and Wanda Harris and her husband Don of Charlotte, TN; many nieces and nephews; and his side-kick, companion, and dedicated caregiver, Carol Smith of Monkeys Eyebrow, KY.

He is preceded in death by his loving wife, Ruby Fay Spann; parents, Coleman and Ruth Spann; mother-in-law, Robbie Hayes; brother, Carl Spann and his wife Anita; brother-in-law, Don Griffin; nephew, Andy Spann; great-nephew Patrick Carl Spann; and great-niece, Kelsey Spann.
