Born in Nashville on November 21, 1955, Phil was the son of Mary Ann Filson Overby and the late Daniel Alexander Overby. He was preceded in death by a son, Winky Overby. He graduated from Stratford High School in Nashville and was married for more than 48 years to the love of his life, Shirley Ann Tyler Overby. To know Phil was to love him! He loved his family unconditionally! By trade, he was a mechanical engineer. He was the owner of Phil's Cycle Shop in Lyles, TN. He loved motorcycles and motorcycle racing, a sport he enjoyed for more than thirty years. He worked on motorcycles and that love extended to go-carts, mini-bikes, four-wheelers, jet-skis, and any recreational vehicle with an engine. He was very knowledgeable in his trade and was happy to share that knowledge with others. His motto was, “All you do, do it in Love.” And that included eating his wife’s wonderful cooking!
Survivors include his wife, Shirley Overby, Lyles, TN; his mother, Mary Ann Overby, Hendersonville, TN; his surviving children, Marty Overby, Lyles, Sunshine Overby, “Little Phil” Overby (Tabatha), Marianna Smithson (Jeffrey), Chesney Russell (David), all of Dickson, and Tia Overby, Lyles; brothers, Cliff Overby (Joni) and Jeff Overby (Melissa) all of Hendersonville; Kevin Overby (Christy), Mt.
