In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt.

Maddy Virden, 19 years of age, of Charlotte, TN passed from this life on Wednesday, October 14, 2020 at the Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital in Nashville, TN. She was born on November 24, 2000 in Nashville to her mother, Lori Cobb.

From birth until death, Maddy showed everyone that knew her that she was a fighter. As an infant, she survived RSV. At age 13, she defeated cancer for the first time and eventually went on to graduate from Creekwood High School in the Class of 2019. During her time in high school, she was the manager for the Girls’ Basketball team for all 4 years. She went on to become a Certified Nursing Assistant, working at NHC in Dickson, TN while putting herself through school to be a phlebotomist until her second and final cancer diagnosis in September of 2020.

Maddy also held a special place in the hearts of the Dickson Fire Department, volunteering there for a short time during high school. She had a huge heart for animals and loved her two pets. Her favorite thing of all was to make people laugh. Maddy was a huge Alabama Crimson Tide football and basketball fan… “ROLL TIDE!”

She was preceded in death by her father: Eddie Williams; her brother: Michael Allen Swaw, Jr.; and her grandparents: Charles and Jean Nance.

Survivors include her mother, Lori Cobb and her stepfather, David of Charlotte; her sisters: Beth Moore (Greg) of Bon Aqua, Ashley Aulidge (Chase) of White Bluff, and Shiloh Meadows (Casey) of Lyles; her grandmother: Margaret Williams of Charlotte; her nephews: Rhett Moore and Blake Meadows; her niece: Autumn Meadows; her step-brothers: Nick Cobb of Springfield, and Anthony Cobb of Charlotte; her step-sister: Jessica Goddard (Kenny) of Springfield; her dog: Buddy; and her guinea pig: Pickles.
