Walter Reed Sanders, 83, passed away on Sunday, August 15, 2021 at Loma Linda (California) Veterans Hospital.  Walter was born in Dickson, Tennessee to the late Jimmie Reed Sanders and Nannie K. Nash Sanders.  He attended Hampton School in Dickson and upon graduating from high school in Nashville, he joined the U. S. Air Force and served 20 plus years.  He was stationed in various places in the U. S. and overseas and learned to speak several languages.  During his lifetime he continued his education, started a restaurant business and encouraged others to finish school and further their education.  He finished real estate school and proudly wore the Century 21 Gold blazer.  He would always say, “Get educated, work hard, and save a dollar!”  He also retired from the U. S. Post Office.

Walter was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Clyde Sanders and Cleveland Sanders, Jimmie Jr. Sanders and Lester Hogan.  A sister, Mary Wright (Herbert, deceased), sisters-in-law Margaret Sanders and Carolyn Sanders.  Walter is survived by five children, Collette, of Texas, Andre’ (wife Gloria), of Indiana, Jacqueline, of Tennessee, Yvette, of Texas, and Lamont, of Tennessee, and the mother of his children, Evelyn Darden.

Walter loved all seven of his grandchildren, Nikki, CaMariezz, DeEiyne, Mykal, Leon, III, Sidney and he had an extra special bond with his granddaughter, Lillian.  He was also blessed and loved his 16 great grandchildren.  He has a host of great nieces and nephews with Bridget Huddleston, Lynette Wright, Tameeka Patterson Rice and Latrise Woods, holding a special place in his life and heart.  Not forgetting his deceased niece and nephew Rosalind and Ronald Wright.  He will be missed by his California family because of his kindness, wisdom, and his willingness to always help strangers and friends.  Special friends Victor, Judy, Gerardo, Ricky, Wanda, Sharon and Lavette.  We would have been lost without the help of Monica and Abel and Barbara and Yvonne. Thanks for everything.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, September 2, 2021 from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m. at Taylor Funeral Home in Dickson.  A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. at East Dickson Cemetery with burial and U. S. Air Force honors.  Immediately following the service, a repass will be held at the VFW on Marshall Stuart Drive, Dickson.
