Laura Jean Lazenby, 65, of Dickson, TN, passed from this life at Alive Hospice on September 11, 2021.  Born in Dickson, TN, on April 4, 1956, Laura grew up on a dairy farm in White Bluff, TN, the daughter of William Hugh (Pete) Lazenby and Christine Luther Lazenby.  She attended William James School and graduated from Dickson County High School, class of 1974.

Laura had a strong work ethic and was never long without a job.  After high school she worked for the State of Tennessee Dept. of Employment Security.  Other jobs included as a Human Resources officer at First American Bank and as office staff at the American Red Cross.

During this time she joined the Army Reserve and was recognized for her marksmanship.

After a few years working in Florida, she returned to Dickson in 1995 and began working at Martin Brower where she continued until the time of her death.  She loved her job and her co-workers, taking orders from McDonalds franchises over a large area.  She knew managers by name and was always eager to greet them personally if she happened their way.  When her sister would routinely ask “How was your day?”, her reply would always be “Hamburgers and French Fries!”

Laura’s personality was such that she never met a stranger; consequently her friends were many: from grade school, from high school, from her jobs, from church, and just people she talked with randomly and grew to know.  She never broke those cords of friendship, even after leaving school and jobs.  She had a huge group of Facebook friends whom she cared  about deeply, often concerned with trials they were enduring and offering them supportive words and deeds.

Laura loved her family and was a regular at family dinners.  She was always upbeat and always had an opinion to share.  It was fun to be with Aunt Laura, she was the “cool aunt”.  She had a special bond with her great nephew Ollie, as they often played battleship together.  She, her mother, and her sister Alice had regular Scrabble games.

Laura was a member of Walnut Street Church of Christ and loved her church family.  She had made many friends in a short time there.  She looked forward to working more for the Lord when she retired.

Laura is survived by her mother, Christine Lazenby, her brother Bob Lazenby (Carolyn), her sisters Ann Luther (Frank) and Alice Poole; nephews Michael Cherry (Allison) , Alec Lazenby, Austin Lazenby; nieces Elena Orr (Andy), Leslie Ware (Jackson), Kimberly Halliburton (Jon), and Katie Lazenby; eight great nephews and nieces, and numerous cousins.  Preceding her in death were her father, Pete Lazenby, her brother-in-law Rick Poole, and her beloved dog Blue.

Visitation with the family for Laura Jean Lazenby will be held in the Chapel of Taylor Funeral Home on Thursday, September 16th, from 5:00 until 8:00, and on Friday, September 17th, from 12:00 until the time of the service at 2:00, to be conducted by Dr. Bryan McAlister.

Those desiring may make donations in memory of Laura to the Dickson Help Center, the American Cancer Society, or the Waverly Flood Victims.
