Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday afternoon, November 9, 2021, at 2:00 PM from the chapel of Taylor Funeral Home, with Chad Fussell officiating. Place of rest will be in the Dickson County Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Monday, November 8 from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM and on Tuesday beginning at 10:00 AM until time of service.

Ricky, age 72, died peacefully November 5 at Horizon Medical Center, surrounded by his family. He was born and raised in Dickson County, son of the late Carl and Hazel Gray. A hard worker, skilled craftsman, and longtime member of Ironworkers Local 492, he could build just about anything. He was extremely quick-witted, known for his amazing sense of humor.

He loved being outdoors, working with his hands, farming, and tending to his horses, chickens, and goats. More than anything else, he loved his family and friends, and if you were his friend, you were his family. His wife and his girls were the pride of his life. For the past twenty-five years, he was affectionately known as “Gramps” to those closest to him, as his grandchildren became the center of his life. Travel to horse shows was replaced by baseball games and dance recitals, and he bought enough Happy Meals that he should own stock in McDonald’s.

Gramps was always there for you. Fiercely loyal and generous to a fault, he was always ready to help anyone. As the pillar of his family, he lived out the things he believed in, and while he will be missed tremendously, the values he cared about will live on through his children and grandchildren.

Gramps is survived by his wife of 44 years, Betty Ruth Taylor Gray of Bon Aqua, TN; his children, BJ and Kelly Owen, of Bon Aqua, Ashley and Chad Fussell, of Dickson; his 5 grandchildren, Cole and Payton Tucker, Taylor and Luke Russell, Brandan Owen; his siblings, Gerald and Joyce Gray, Jimmy Gray, Danny Gray, Randall and Sheila Gill, Jeff and Lisa Taylor, Faye Gray, Nancy Gray; and a host of nieces and nephews.

His sons and his five grandchildren will serve as pallbearers. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Anita's Pixiedust Fund, Banebow or Play 4 Peyton.
