Rex Victor Kimbro, 81, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, December 14, 2021. He was surrounded by family and was a beloved father, pa and friend to many.

Rex was born on September 21, 1940, on his mother, Odell Frazier Kimbro’s birthday, and grew up in Dickson County, TN. She always said he was the best birthday present she ever received. He lived in Robertson County, TN for 38 years before returning to Dickson County after he retired from Robertson Cheatham Farmers Cooperative, where he served as General Manager for 38 years. Rex’s love of agriculture began at a young age as an active member of Future Farmers of America, serving as both Chapter President and State President of the organization with Kenneth K. Mitchell, serving as his advisor. He graduated Dickson High School in 1959 and from the University of Tennessee Knoxville in 1964 with a degree in Ag Business. He was a member and officer of Farmhouse Fraternity as well as the Ag-Econ and Ag-Business club.  After graduation, he went to work for Tennessee Farmers Cooperative as a fieldman before being selected as General Manager of Robertson Farmers Cooperative in Springfield.

He was instrumental in the merging of Robertson Cheatham Farmers Cooperative and loved his time working with farmers in both counties for many years. For those who served on the Board of Directors, Rex was known for being a great host as they attended American Institute of Cooperatives annual conferences, held across the U.S., along with always making a Gatlinburg, TN annual trip that included watching the Vols play in Neyland Stadium. After retirement, he followed the Lady Vols faithfully attending many games and most all of the post conference tournaments cheering on Pat Head Summit and the Lady Vols. Lots of good relationships made and nurtured on Co-op board bus trips to East TN over the years! He also farmed his entire life, with his daughter and many of her friends enjoying time on the farm raising tobacco, soybeans, corn and wheat. There have also been Hereford or Angus cattle as part of the farming operation since it began, which is now carried on by his grandson Tanner Rex Pritchett on the homeplace in Dickson County’s Mt. Sinai community.

Rex was also known for his Co-op member cookouts where a thick cut Ribeye steak was king, and for the annual Kimbro Barbecue on the 4th of July. If the East Robertson Indians were playing basketball, odds are you could find Rex and Elaine on the sidelines, and they were season ticket holders for many years at good ol Rocky Top.

He is survived by daughter, Vickie Kimbro Pritchett; grandchildren Jenna Pritchett,  and Tanner (Tori) Pritchett; brother-in-law Vollie (Rita-deceased) Miller, and brother-in-law Donnie (Carolyn) Spann; along with nieces Keri (Joel) Howell and Carla Spann.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Elaine Spann Kimbro,  by his parents, Loyd and Odell Kimbro, and his sister, Rita Kimbro Miller.

A graveside service will be held at Kimbro Cemetery on East Piney Road on Friday, December 17, 2021 at 3:00 p.m. with Pastor Peter Van Eys officiating.  Visitation will be open to family and friends at Taylor Funeral Home from 1:00 p.m. until 2:30 p.m., when the procession will leave for Kimbro Cemetery for the service.

In lieu of flowers, family requests donations be made in Rex’s memory to the Kimbro Cemetery Fund c/o Sue Buckner, or Common Voices, an advocates’ coalition determined to create a Fire Safe America. (https://fireadvocates.networkforgood.com/projects/125513-main-giving-page )  Donations may also be handled through Taylor Funeral Home to either organization.
