Thomas Michael “Tom” Brooks, age 57 of Burns, TN, died on May 25, 2022 at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. 

A funeral service with military honors will be held on Saturday, May 28, 2022 at 1:00 PM at Taylor Funeral Home with Bro. Mitch Stevens, Bro. Boyd Nash, Billy Burgess, and son Stanley Brooks speaking.  Visitation will be held on Friday from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM.  Following the service, Tom will be cremated and placed at rest at Dickson County Memorial Gardens. If friends desire, contributions can be sent to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, American Cancer Society, Wounded Warriors, or Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital. 

Mr. Brooks was born January 26, 1965 in Chelsea, Massachusetts.  He grew up near Denver, Colorado where he later enlisted in the U.S. Army.  He was a Veteran having served in the U.S. Army for 10 years.  He completed basic training at Fort Benning, Georgia.  He was part of the 2nd Battalion 327th Infantry “No Slack” in Fort Campbell, Kentucky.  He served in the Multinational Force and Observers in Sinai, Egypt.  He was part of the Berlin Brigade 5/502nd Infantry in Berlin, Germany.  He was a part of the 2nd 504th Infantry Regiment, 82nd Airborne Division “Devils in Baggy Pants.” He traveled the world protecting our freedoms and ensuring the freedoms of others.  He and his family were in Berlin, Germany when the Berlin Wall was brought down.  He was on orders to deploy to the Desert Storm conflict before it was eventually called off.  After military service, Mr. Brooks eventually found his niche as a salesman for Ferguson Enterprises.  He conducted his sales while fostering authentic client relationships and had the ability to anticipate and meet people’s needs.  He was an avid Denver Broncos fan and enjoyed watching them win three Super Bowl titles throughout his life.  He shared his love of football with his family, and his family carries that same passion today.  Tom has been member of Oak Avenue Church of Christ where he responded to the Gospel in the early 2000s. He was married to his wife Joyce Ann Brooks for thirty-six years. Tom told Joyce she was his number one every day until the very end. 

Mr. Brooks is survived by his wife, Joyce Ann Fowlkes Brooks; his father, Lawrence Stanley Brooks (Donna) of Sterling, CO; his stepfather, Don Jordan; his children, Michael Thomas Brooks (Holly) of Dickson, TN, Stanley Wayne Brooks (Jessica) of Dickson, TN, and Cecily Ann Gaither (Kaleb) of Dickson, TN; his siblings, John David Brooks of Denver, CO, Stanley James Brooks (Sky) of Loveland, CO, Nathan Jordan of Denver, CO, Karen Marie Slaichert (Tim) of Garner, Iowa, Theodore Joshua Albo of Sterling, CO, Nichole Marie Merrigan (Jeremy) of Colorado Springs, CO; 3 grandchildren, Sadie Ann Gaither, Lily Jane Brooks, Presley Ann Gaither; nieces and nephews, Mandy Burgess (Billy), NaShai Anderson (Jason), Matthew Fowlkes ( Kyrstin), Kyleigh Kumsher (Tyler), Cori Merrigan (Lee), Maxine Marie, Elise Jordan, Forrest Jordan, Aaron Slaichert (Amelia), and Tenchi Jordan. 

Mr. Brooks is preceded in death by his mother, Ella Pauline Jordan; his grandfathers, Stanley M. Brooks, Howard Bergman; and grandmothers, Evelyn “Lady” R. Brooks and Helen Bergman. 

 

He left a legacy built on the principles of family that will continue throughout generations to come.
