It was with great sorrow, eternal gratitude, and unwavering love, that the family of Mary Louise Wright announce her peaceful passing on August 10th, 2022 at the tender age of 86.
From the rising of her sun on June 25th, 1936, until the going down of the same on August 10th, 2022, Mary Louise Wright cast her light on all who were blessed to have entered her path. Born to the late Jimmie Reed Sanders and Nannie Katherine Burns Nash, Mary received Christ at an early age in Nashville, Tennessee. Until her passing, she was a devoted member of Worley Furnace Missionary Baptist Church in the small town of Dickson, Tennessee, which will affectionately be remembered as Mary’s home.
To know Mary is to know that she cherished the blessing of being the blushing bride of her husband, Herbert Wright, for nearly 70 years. Mary and Herbert were married on June 6th,1953, and together, were blessed with four children: Ronald Wright, Bridget Huddleston, Lynette Wright, and Rosalind Wright. The pair traveled the world with their children as a military family in service to the United States Air Force. They modeled a marriage of love, devotion, and longevity for their children and eleven grandchildren: Stephen Brooks, Ronald Wright Jr. (Adonica), Latrise Woods, Damon Huddleston (Shykish), Anthony Patterson (Mariah), Tameeka Rice (Victor), Monique Wright Hudson (Federico), Holy Gourie, II (Britney), Herbert C. Wright, Adriel Butto (Shawn), Mary Thomas (Nolan). Mary was left to mourn a temporary separation in April of 2021, when her soulmate completed his earthly assignment.
Mary was a product of Nashville Public School System, Riverside County education, and Riverside City College where she earned her Vocational Nurse license in 1972. Throughout her life, Mary took on many jobs in service to others. From gift wrapping at Zodys for Christmas, to packing military families’ belongings with the Mayflower Van Line, to patient care as a nurse in Riverside County, California, Mary was devoted to living life with the heart of a servant. She continued to be led as a tireless vessel of service when she returned home to Dickson and served on the missionary board at her church home.
Among many other passions, Mary had a deep commitment to social justice issues. As a former president and longtime member of the Dickson County Tennessee Branch of the nation's oldest and largest civil rights organization, the NAACP, an active member of the Dickson Democratic Society, a Lifetime Member of the VFW, and an active member of the Dickson Historical Society, Mary fought to leave this world better than she found it. Further, she was a regular columnist for The Tennessean, where she shared the news and events around Dickson County, highlighting the important achievements and events in her community and sharing the Good News.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two children: Ronald (2004) and Rosalind Wright (2014), five brothers: Clyde Clark Sanders, Walter Reed Sanders, Cleveland Ovester Sanders, Jimmy Sanders, Jr., and Lester Hogan; and three foster sisters: Leslie Watkins, Lucille Watkins, Gwendolyn Sue York.
Mary celebrated her last birthday on this side of heaven at her house in Moreno Valley, California where she was showered with love by her daughters, many of her grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, and friends, both in person and virtually. She departed this life in the most tranquil of fashions, with her daughter, Bridget, by her side.

She leaves to live her legacy, her two daughters: Bridget Huddleston and Lynette Wight of Dickson; foster sister: Beatrice Watkins of Nashville; sisters-in-law: Margaret Sanders (Dickson) and Caroline Sanders (Nashville); Aunts: Venie Mae Sanders (Dickson) and Roberta Burns (Waverly); 11 grandchildren (listed above), 42 great grandchildren, 7 great great grandchildren, and a host of dear family members, friends, and other loved ones.
