Ms. Nancy Van Ness passed away Friday February 10, 2023, at Dickson County Health and Rehabilitation.
Ms. Van Ness was born in Richmond, Virginia to the late Clarence and Marjorie Vining.
Nancy had a love for the arts, and she had a strong love for the French culture and language. Ms. Van Ness was a true educator and loved to share her knowledge with others. In the 80’s she received the Texas French Teacher of The Year award. She enjoyed sharing her knowledge with the youth studying on Broadway in New York City. She traveled far and wide with them so they could pursue their dreams on Broadway, and she would tutor them along the way which helped further their education.
She loved her family and she helped instill faith and courage in them. Nancy was not at all afraid to stand up for what she THOUGHT and KNEW was right. She was an advocate for the constitution and prided herself on her love for the First Amendment!
She loved spending time in New York City. She loved the fast-paced hustle and the many opportunities to take in the art there. She loved to dance - especially the Tango. Mr. George Lilly was a close friend with whom she danced and shared the city life.
Ms. Van Ness is survived by her daughter, Martha Terry of Dickson; grandsons, Gage and Peyton Terry of Dickson; brothers, Larry Vining of Columbia, and Geoff Vining of Blacksburg, VA; sister, Jackie Abt (Mike) of Dickson; nieces, Monica Ernst of Brookhaven, GA, Morgan Hanson, of Evansville, IN, Michelle Abt, Memphis, TN, and Catherine Vining of Louisville, KY; nephews, Christopher Vining of New York, NY, Walker Vining, Columbia, TN, and David Vining, Charleston, SC.
In addition to her parents, Nancy was predeceased by a grandson, Johnathon Taylor Terry.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the Alzheimer's Association.
