William Anderson “Andy” Downing, age 54, of Dickson, TN, died suddenly February 19, 2023, at TriStar Horizon Medical Center.

Andy was born and raised in Nashville, TN. Growing up in Pegram and going on to build a family of his own in Dickson, TN. Andy became the man of his house at the age of 15 all while excelling in his academics and athletics at Harpeth High School. Andy was a three- sport athlete playing baseball, basketball, and football being the first quarterback in school history. After high school he continued on playing collegiate baseball for Aquinas College and Martin Methodist College. Later on, he returned back to Harpeth High School to coach football for the Indians, helping to lead the program to 4 straight Regional Football Championships and numerous state playoff games. In recent years, he was recognized for his contributions and achievements by the Cheatham County Sports Hall of Fame. Later in life Andy found a love for the game of golf and instilled that love to both of his daughters acting as a coach and their biggest supporter.

Andy was a loving, passionate, and selfless man in all aspects of life. Andy would quite literally take the shoes off his feet and give them to whoever was in need. He inspired and influenced every person he met. He married his best friend and wife Suzanne in 1995 and soon after was blessed with his first daughter Anna in 1996, then his baby girl Marlee in 1998. To his daughters’ friends he was known as “Bob” for no good reason other than a good laugh. Andy was a devoted animal lover having dogs of his own, as well as grand-pups Jolie, Kota, and Winston. To his pets he was the world and their designated snack sneaker and frisbee thrower. Andy battled with cancer for many years going through numerous treatments and surgeries. Despite all of that, Andy continued to keep a smile on not only his face, but those he surrounded. He fought hard all the way and we know now he has finally won that battle and is in complete peace and comfort. We will forever cherish our memories with our loving father and will continue to live for him in all aspects of our lives. We love you “more than you could ever know” Daddy.

He was preceded in death by his father William Allen Downing and his grandparents; Marie Anderson Greer and Bill Downing and his father-in-law and mother-in-law; John D. and Gena Baggett. Also preceded in death by a four- legged companion Jack.
