Jerlene “Jerri” Hamilton Barber, age 82, of Dickson, TN died peacefully March 11, 2023, at NHC after a short stay.

She was born in Dickson, TN daughter of the late Governor Lucian and Hazel Irene Hargrove Hamilton.  She attended Dickson High School and was a graduate in the class of 1958.  She and her husband owned and operated the former Barber Furniture Co. in downtown Dickson for many, many years where she was the keeper of the books. She was a longtime member of the Walnut Street Church of Christ.

There are not enough words that could capture the love and friendship that Jerri shared with everyone. She had a way to capture your heart and leave and imprint in your memory. She was a loving and devoted wife to her beloved husband, Jimmy Barber. They were married for 65 years and shared an incredible love story. Not only was she a loving and devoted wife, but she was also a loving and devoted mother, sister, grandmother, and great grandmother. Nothing meant more to Jerri than her family. She loved her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren more than anything and took joy in following their activities whether she was going to a game or dance recital, she would be there cheering her “babies on!!” She was so proud of each one.

Jerri was a classy lady and had the most beautiful smile and a contagious laugh that one would never forget. She had a great sense of humor that kept everyone laughing and was always great company in any crowd. Jerri had the most beautiful garden of flowers. She loved her flowers and tending to them. She won the “Dickson Beautification Award” two years. She also loved reading, was a great cook and loved watching her Tennessee Titans play!

The family would like to thank Shawna Jackson for the love and care she gave Jeri during her later days followed by short stay at NHC in Dickson where she was taken care of with the utmost respect. Thank you again for taking care of our sweet Nanny Jerri.

Survivors include her husband of 65 years Jimmy Barber, her three sons; Jeffrey Mac Barber and wife Lori, Michael Steven Barber and Charles Brent Barber and wife Connie, her four grandchildren; Erica Pendergrass and husband Jamey, Jeffrey Barber, Jr. and wife Kendel, Bethany Fei and husband Kenny, Victoria Barber, her seven great grandchildren; Adia, Brice, Dallas, Molly, M.J., Mac and Mila, her two brothers; Chuck Hamilton and wife Vickie and James Randal Hamilton.
