Wilson Eugene Tidwell passed away April 23, 2023.  He was born July 11, 1944 in Opelika, Alabama.  He was 78 years young.  He is survived by his wife Theresa Downs Tidwell of 36 years.  He is preceded in death by his parents Hirschel and Louise Tidwell.  Also survived by wonderful sister-in-laws, brother-in-law, 100’s of nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends that he dearly loved.

Wilson served in the US Army 716th Military Police Vietnam Veteran 1966-1968.  His first service was to God, Country, Family and Friends.  He was employed with Airco, Ash-McNeil, and Air Gas from 1964-1999.  Wilson was a Licensed Firearms Instructor with S.A.T.S. (Small Arms Training School) and a Volunteer Firearms Instructor with Williamson County Sheriff Office Safety Course.  This was his passion and enjoyed his time with all his friends and the people he met.

Wilson never met a stranger or anyone he didn’t like. As you know, he never grew up. He was always a kid at heart, that’s why all the children loved him.  He had more fun sitting at the kids table with Theresa’s nieces, nephews, and children at the Tidwell Reunions, and kids in the neighborhood. Wilson was an only child, so he had a special love for Theresa’s sisters, brother, nieces, and nephews.

Wilson grew up loving Auburn Football (Go Tigers). It made for a good time with all his Kentucky, Tennessee, Georgia, and Alabama friends. Wilson loved country music, he and his dad both played Guitar. Wilson sang and had a beautiful voice. He had a great passion for boating, tennis, sport shooting, and hunting. He looked forward to his yearly October trip to the Thomas Ranch in South Dakota to pheasant hunt. Thanks to all his hunting buddies for the great memories.

Theresa and Wilson met in 1983 in Louisville, Kentucky where that country charm swept her off her feet.  Wilson spent every minute of his life being happy and did not want anyone to be sad for him; he had a good life. One of his favorite lines was “make it short and sweet”.

A Veteran Celebration of life ceremony will be held Saturday, June 10, 2023, at 1pm at The Franklin Elks Lodge 485 Oak Meadow Drive, Franklin Tennessee.  In lieu of flowers donations can be made to T2T (Tunnel to Towers), for new homes for veterans.
