A memorial service for Mattie Pauline “Polly” Petty Russell, age 87 of Dickson, will begin at 12 noon Monday, July 31, 2023, from the chapel of Taylor Funeral Home with the Reverend Crystal Petty officiating. Visitation with the family will also be Monday from 11 a.m. until service time. Polly died Wednesday, July 26, 2023, at her home. For those desiring, memorials may be made to the “Meals on Wheels” program.
Born in the Pinewood community of Hickman County, Polly was the daughter of the late Aaron Paul and Mary B. Christian Petty. A homemaker, Polly loved her family and was there for her family through the stages of their lives. She loved nature and being in the sunshine! Polly was known for her kindness to others and will long be remembered for her smile and cheerful countenance. Just being around her could change your mood for the better! In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husbands, Billy Petty and Richard Russell; her sisters, Iva Dell Tidwell and Mary Helen Petty; her brother, Buford Petty; and by her grandson, Jason Wessel.
Survivors include her five children, Claudia S. Lawson of Dickson, Cathy A. Wessel (Harold) of Macomb, MI, Jimmy S. Petty (Janice) of Dickson, Cynthia L. Plunkett (Ronnie) of Dickson, and Steve Petty (Rev. Crystal) of Dickson; a brother, Donald Eugene Petty (Janie) of Dickson; 19 grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren; and three great-great grandchildren.
