Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 20, 2024, at 5PM from the chapel of the Taylor Funeral Home with Bro. Matthew Hiatt officiating. Visitation will be on Saturday beginning at 1PM until the time of service. Burial will follow in the Dickson County Memorial Gardens. A meal will be provided by the Burns Church of Christ at the fellowship hall following the memorial service.  Everyone is welcome to join us for this meal.                  

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to St. Jude or a charity of your choice. 

Robert “Bobby” Jackson Gray passed from this life Wednesday April 17, 2024. 

Bobby was born and raised in Burns, TN where he lived all his life.  He was a member of the Church of Christ, attending at Burns and Pomona.  Bobby attended Dickson High School where he played basketball and was a member of the FFA.  In his senior year he was voted Best Sport by his classmates.

Bobby served in the United States Army with most of his time served in Germany.  Bobby worked for the railroad for 37 years, first with L&N (Louisville & Nashville), then Seaboard Systems, and finally CSX. 

Bobby played baseball both in his youth and as young man and later played men's softball up to the age of 55.  When not working full-time he worked part time raising cattle and maintaining a vegetable garden each summer.  Bobby retired from the railroad in 1999 and continued to raise cattle, tend to his garden, and do odd jobs to help those in his community. 

Bobby will be remembered most for his humor, wit, and comedic antics, sometimes even dressing the part.  He loved to tell a joke, pull a prank, and be a part of the entertainment at any social gathering. 

Bobby is pre-deceased by his parents Alma (Brown) Gray and Pernel Lacy Gray, Sr., his sisters Clara (Gray) Clifton (Clyde) and Kathryn (Gray) Buttrey (Harvey), and his brothers Ben Gray (Dean), Pernel Lacy Gray, Jr. (Doris), and Kenneth Gray who died in his youth. 

Bobby is survived by his wife of 61 years, Patty (Hutchison) Gray, who has been his caretaker for the last 8 years.  Bobby is survived by his sister Alene (Gray) Broshears, brother Earl Gray (Virginia), and children Gary Gray and Carol Gray.  Bobby also has many surviving nieces, nephews, and extended family and he will be missed by many.
