Memorial Visitation will be held on Saturday, May 4, 2024, from 4PM until 7PM in the chapel of the Taylor Funeral Home.

Walter Eugene Ferguson, Jr. was born on October 27th, 1947, to Gene and Ora Ferguson. The youngest of three boys, he grew up in Forest City, Arkansas surrounded by farmland and cousins. From an early age, Walter showed that he was a natural and gifted musician. Music would go on to become one of his passions and his career for most of his life.

In his early twenties, Walter was drafted into service during the Vietnam war. He served a two-year tour of duty as a helicopter door gunner. After the war, Walter struck out on his own and earned his degree from Louisiana State University. Always full of life, Walter travelled and adventured and even moved on a whim, to Los Angeles, knowing no one there or where he would even live.

In the 80’s, Walter made the move to Nashville to seriously pursue music as a career and immediately earned a position as a touring musician. The next several decades would see him tour with the likes of Rex Allen, Jr., Fish Heads and Rice, Mark Chesnutt, and George Jones.

Besides music, Walter had a passion for people, spreading his love for Jesus through his daily devotionals, with his small group class and his family. He loved his girls and putting down roots in Dickson. Walter was proceeded in death by his parents and middle brother, Tommy. He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Tina Ferguson, his daughter Jordan Kahn (Micah), granddaughters Ava and Clara, his in-laws Bobby and Virginia Petty and his eldest brother James Earl Ferguson (Toni), as well as too many family and friends to count.

Walter’s legacy will live on through the lives he touched with his daily devotionals, his music and very much so through his two granddaughters who love the stage and microphone just as much as he did.
