Mr. George “Valton” Potter died on September 5, 2024. He was 79 years old. For the last three years of his life, he courageously battled serious health issues. His family can take solace in the fact that he is now at peace and with the Lord.
Valton was a country boy from the Yellow Creek community in Dickson County. He graduated from Dickson High School in 1962, and he proudly served his nation in the United States Army. In 1969, he married Betty Estes of Burns, Tennessee; they were married for 55 years before being separated by his death.

If you measure wealth by the amount of love others have for a man, Valton Potter was a rich man. His three sons, Timothy Potter (Amber), Tadd Potter (Julie), and Todd Potter (Ginger) all reside and raise their families in Dickson County. In addition, he is survived by seven grandchildren, and a great-grandson, siblings, Charles Potter, Bob Potter, Lavell Walker, Faye Lair, Billy Potter. He was adored by his family, extended family, and many people whose lives he impacted. He exemplified how a family man should behave by unconditionally devoting himself to others.

Valton proudly worked for more than forty years as a union electrician and earned a reputation for honesty and hard work. Outside of work, he enjoyed all sports, especially baseball. He coached and umpired baseball for many years. His knowledge of the game is legendary. He touched the lives of many young men in the community who even now still refer to him as “Coach Potter.”
Valton was a simple man; he was never materialistic. He selflessly got the most pleasure from simply being with his family and from helping others. He will be missed, but his example will survive.
