A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, November 7, 2015 from the Dickson Cumberland Presbyterian Church with Ken Abraham officiating. Her remains will be interred at a later time in the Clifton Cemetery. The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, memorials to Dickson Cumberland Presbyterian Church or to Christ Church, Nashville, will be appreciated.
Eleanor Haight Garton, age 73 of Dickson, died Tuesday, October 20, 2015 at the Alive Hospice Residence in Nashville. Born in Pennsylvania, Eleanor was the daughter of the late John Wesley and Ruth Hubert Haight. She retired as a secretary for the State of Tennessee, working both for Dickson County Human Services and later for Dickson County Children’s Services. She also served as a board member for many years for Dickson County Developmental Services. Eleanor attended Dickson Cumberland Presbyterian Church and was also affiliated with Christ Church, Nashville.
Survivors include her husband, Fred Garton, Dickson; three sons, David Wayne Garton, Stephen William Garton, and Michael Andree Garton, all of Dickson; one daughter, Michelle Lynn Karlon, Franklin, TN; one brother, John “Jack” Haight, Florida; five grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and foster daughters, Hope Lakin, Oklahoma, and Angela Newcome, Missouri.
