Mr. Martin, 8 days shy of his 95th birthday, was born in El Dorado, Kansas on December 13, 1925, son of the late Scott and Edna Britton Martin. He served his country during World War II in the U. S. Navy from 1943-1950. He was a retired letter carrier for the U. S. Postal Service. Mr. Martin loved being outside working in his garden, walking in the woods and fishing. He loved to pick at you and make you angry; but you could never stay aggravated because he would always do something to make you laugh. He would do anything he could to help others and worked with the Big Brothers Organization to make sure people had Christmas. He was preceded by his wife, Eva Dowdy Martin; his son, Ralph Martin, Jr.; daughters, Edna Prestidge and Geannie Keele; brother, Scott Martin, Jr.; and sisters, Velva Ann Stacey and Pearl Williams.
Survivors include three daughters, Rose Chamness of Texas, Gail Hutcherson (Benny Hollis) of Fairview, TN, and Ann Goodwin (David) of Memphis; one sister, Rubie Corkan of White Bluff; 19 grandchildren and 53 great and great-great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
