Born in Dickson County, Johnny was the son of the late J. D. and Winnie Louise Clark Gafford. Now retired, Johnny formerly worked as a foreman for Sessions (Asphalt) Paving Company. He was married to Lou Elkins Gafford.
Survivors include his wife, Lou Gafford, White Bluff; children, Sherry Bennett (Evan), David Jones, all of Lyles, Steve Jones and Mark Jones, of White Bluff; Danny Jones (Reba), and Jeffery Gafford, all of Dickson; a sister, Fay Hall, of Vanleer; 16 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. He was preceded by children, Shelly Jones, Sharon Hinkley, and Kayla Bennett.
