Dorothy Jean (Dot) Hamilton Robinson joined her husband Grady in God’s Heavenly Kingdom on December 26, 2024.   Born at the family home on Cherry Street in Dickson, TN on October 4th, 1936, Dot was the third of seven children born to Pearl and Roger L. Hamilton.   She was born with two teeth and weighed over 11 pounds.

The Hamilton’s owned and operated Roger L. Hamilton’s Grocery in Dickson. Dot, as with her siblings, often worked at the store, and it was there that she met the love of her life, Loyd Grady Robinson. Dot generally worked the cash register at the front of the store and met Grady when she asked his father why he (Grady) always sat out in their truck when Mr. Robinson came in to shop.  Mr. Robinson went out and brought Grady into the store and introduced him to Dot. Soon after the two began to “date”. Since Grady was 15 and Dot only 13, the two initially double dated with Dot’s older sister Ruby.

On July 20, 1953, Dot and Grady accompanied Grady’s cousin and his girlfriend to Corinth, MS to serve as witnesses for the cousin’s wedding. While there, they decided to marry as well. The marriage was kept secret from everyone for two years as if it had been discovered, laws at the time would have forbid Dot from graduating High School. The marriage lasted until Grady’s death in March of 2020, almost 67 years.

Soon after graduation, Dot began working for American Telephone and Telegraph (AT&T) Company, eventually retiring from the company after 33 years of service. On March 7 of 1959, the first of two children, Eric Loyd Robinson, was born.   Their second child, Tamera Kay Robinson followed 9 years and 4 days later on March 11, 1968.

Dot was very active in her church, Hillcrest United Methodist Church in Nashville, where she and Grady were members for almost 60 years. She served in the Womens Club – The Hillcrest Honeys, was a youth counselor for the UMYF, served on various committees including the Pastor Parish Relations Committee, taught Sunday School, and prepared Communion for many years.

Dot is preceded in death by her husband of almost 67 years, Loyd Grady Robinson, her parents, Roger Lewis and Pearl Talbert Hamilton, both of Dickson, an older brother, Edward Lewis Hamilton (died as an infant) and her older sister Ruby Lee Reynolds, also of Dickson.

She is survived by sisters Barbara Akins of Cumberland Furnace, TN, Patricia Gorzny of Dickson, TN, and brothers Jerry Hamilton of Dickson and Glen Hamilton of Sparks, NV.  In addition, Dot is survived by her children Eric Loyd Robinson of Atlanta, GA. and Tamera Kay (Ralph) Smith of Nolensville, TN. as well as 5 Grandchildren (Amanda “Mandy” Gail Deckard, Ryan Loyd Robinson (Katie), Rachel Marie Robinson, Anna Grace Mills (Cade) and Madalyn Elizabeth Smith).  Finally, Dot is survived by four great grandchildren (Sarah Rose Delgado, David Loyd Robinson, Maximilian Edwin Robinson and Jack Ian Mills).
